Pssst! Don't tell anyone; Green loves the war

With an Iraq war referendum already on the Milwaukee ballot in November, and several other communities working on it, this result from the latest Republican-leaning Strategic Vision poll seem relevant:

10. Would you like to see the United States withdraw all troops from Iraq within six months?
Yes 58%
No 30%
Undecided 12%
This is the same poll that shows the governor's race in a dead heat.

If I were Mark Green, the biggest cheerleader in Congress for the war, and founder of the Victory in Iraq caucus in the House, I'd be nervous.

Of course, the voters may never know what Green thinks about the war, given the way the state's largest newspaper, the Journal Sentinel, failed to cover his position on this week's stem cell research vote. It made headlines, but there was something missing:

On Tuesday, the Senate passed highly significant legislation expanding stem cell research, setting up a contentious override in the House that Mark Green will now have to vote on. The JS reports that Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold cast their expected yes votes. Does reporter Katherine Skiba ask Green how he's going to vote? Nope.

On Wednesday, the President makes his veto, and Green and the House Republicans sustain it. Does Skiba ask Green why he voted the way he did? Nope.

Does Skiba ask Green if he is worried this will affect his campaign? Nope.

Does Skiba ask him if was afraid of crossing Pro-Life Wisconsin? Nope.

Does Skiba ask him if agrees with the White House that research on new stem cell lines is "murder"? Nope.

Does the Journal Sentinel even report how Green -- or any member of the Wisconsin delegation for that matter -- voted? Of course not. Too busy writing about "snowflakes."
