Blasphemy at DeLay dinner

Say it ain't so.

The Chicago Trib reports that the band at the right-wing love fest for Tom (The Hammer) DeLay played "If I Had A Hammer" with a country twang.

The song was written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays of the Weavers, who were persecuted and blacklisted for their leftist political leanings during the anti-communist witch hunts of the 1950s.

When they wrote:

Well I've got a hammer
And I've got a bell
And I've got a song to sing
All over this land
It's the hammer of justice
It's the bell of freedom
It's the song about love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

I'm pretty sure they didn't have Tom DeLay and his friends from the American Conservative Union in mind.
