Suder gets another slap on 'hate speech'
State Rep. Scott Suder (R-Abbotsford) continues to take it on the chin for his misguided attack on a planned speakers program at the University of Wisconsin, terming it "hate speech.( Earlier post.)
Latest is a John Nichols column for the Capital Times, in which Nichols notes that Suder doesn't seem to recognize hate speech when he hears it. He's silent when there's real hate speech against gays or minorities. But when UW invites someone who's going to speak against the war in Iraq, Suder screams "hate speech." It's actually called "dissent," which has always been expected and welcomed on college campuses.
Nichols even works in the inevitable "sifting and winnowing" quote.
