Republicans celebrate Waukesha 'win'

Wisconsin Republicans are celebrating the fact that a Republican won a non-partisan race for county exec in Waukesha County, which shouldn't be too surprising. Waukesha is one of the most Republican counties in the state, and voted almost 2 to 1 for Bush-Cheney over Kerry-Edwards a year ago.

The winner, State Rep. Dan Vrakas, beat another Republican, Jim Dwyer, although the Republicans tried hard to make him into a Democrat. So it's hard to understand all of the jubiliation and claims that this is somehow a mandate for anything. DubyaIsFredo (I didn't name it; don't ask) has more.

You don't need to join the Republican Party to be a Republican.

But even if you're right, what is there to celebrate about a Republican -- no matter who the opponent was -- winning an election where the electorate is 65 to 70% Republilcan?

Did I miss something? Was today's celebration about Walker? Is he the new Waukesha County exec?

I rule your comment non-germane and therefore out of order, as F. Jim would say.

Umm, did you celebrate when Norquist beat Marty Schreiber in that one party town?

At least in the Vrakas / Dwyer race there were real policy differences.

Yes, I celebrated the Norq win over Schreiber because I ran Norq's campaign. But I don't recall the chair of the Democratic Party putting out press releases to extol the victory, the way Graber did in Waukesha.
