2-4-6-8 Time for Gard to negotiate?
Compromise may be in the air over school choice. Cory Liebmann correctly points out that the increasing pressure over the school choice enrollment cap in Milwaukee has forced Speaker John Gard to the bargaining table, where Gov. Jim Doyle has been prepared to meet him for some time.
Gard will take extreme positions and try not to make a deal, because the GOP has been counting on using it as a fall campaign issue. The kids? The kids be damned. This is all about politics, as far as Gard is concerned. ACE Finally Drags Gard to the Negotiating Table

"Where Doyle has been willing to meet with him some time"? C'mon Christofferson, tell the truth. It was only after Doyle couldn't take the heat any longer that he finnally agreed to negotiate. His ploy all along has been to delay and delay and try to blame the Republicans for the delay, when in fact he has lied about the Republicans and their willingness to negotiate. Who do you honestly expect people to believe, Doyle or Brother Bob Smith? Are you willing to look Smith in the face and call him a liar? Are you?
Well, there's this:
Gov. Doyle: Statement of Dan Leistikow, Spokesman for Gov. Doyle, Regarding Untrue Press Release from Alliance for Choices in Education
2/10/2006
Contacts:
Anne Lupardus
Office of the Governor
608-261-2162
Dan Leistikow, Spokesman for Governor Doyle made the following statement today regarding the untrue press release from Alliance for Choices in Education:
"The statement from the Alliance for Choices in Education today is untrue. The Governor was never on a conference call with Brother Bob Smith last week. No senior official from the Governor's administration called Brother Bob after this fictitious call to repeat a fictitious offer. Neither the Governor, nor any of his representatives, has ever suggested an increase of 10,000 students. Obviously, whoever wrote this press release has wrong information.
"Governor Doyle's position is clear, and anyone who isn't sure about it should read the newspaper. He supports an increase in the school choice cap of up to 5,000 students while ensuring basic accountability for public tax dollars.
"The Governor is working in good faith to reach an agreement that both lifts the cap and ensures that our tax dollars aren't spent on any more Mercedes Benzes for principals. This very serious issue is not going to be resolved by playing games."
You're a little owly today, Wiggie. Off your meds?
Leistikow is truth-challenged; he's not a credible source. In short, he lies for the Liar.
Having said that, it is true that BagManJim is "always" available for negotiations on Choice.
However, BagMan negotiates with forked tongue. Even the Archbishop of Milwaukee had to imply what Brother Bob said outright: they LIE.
I guess it's final. The governor is a congenital liar. One time supporters of school choice are now willing to say anything, repeat any lie of the governor to get him re-elected. When confronted by a man like Brother Bob Smith, they would rather try to tear him down than support his good work - just to re-elect this governor.
This governor doesn't deserve the trust placed in him 3 1/2 years ago by the voters of this state, a mistake I trust the voters are readt to rectify. My question to the governor's partisans, must you continue to sell your soul to defend him?
