Deja vu on Walker's bus system cuts

Dec. 6, 2003 Journal Sentinel:
In a scathing attack on Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, the candidate trying to unseat him said county bus route reductions starting this weekend represent the "beginning of a death spiral for the bus system."

David Riemer also criticized Walker for doing a "complete flip-flop" on the issue of bus service by increasing adult fares by 25 cents despite Walker's earlier indications that he would "consider" cutting fares to boost ridership.

"Ending routes, reducing service and raising fares are short-sighted, small-minded solutions to the problem," Riemer said in a prepared statement. "Unless we act to reverse the trend, this is guaranteed to bring further cuts.
