A pardon for Scooter from Gov. Green?

It seems like a pretty simple, straightforward question. Wisconsin Public Television's Frederica Freyberg asked Mark Green whether, if he were elected governor, he would pardon his old friend and cohort, Scott Jensen.

Jensen, the former Assembly Speaker, was convicted of felonies for abusing the public trust, misusing his office, and repeatedly breaking the law by having taxpayer-paid staff campaign and raise money for Republican candidates. Green himself was mentioned during Jensen's trial as someone who benefited from the illegal work, and two Green staffers were fingered as doing some of it, but none of them were charged.

So, no-brainer on the pardon question, right?

Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon, but Mark Green wouldn't pardon Scott Jensen, would he?

Well, Green and his campaign manager are in the mode of "Never say never." For some reason, they won't just say no. I can only think of one reason. Because the answer might be yes sometime in the future.

Spivak and Bice have the details.

UPDATE: Dave Diamond says Green will pardon Jensen.

UPDATE 2: Cory Liebmann asks: Does Mark Green even know what Mark Green thinks?

Ask the hard follow-up as well. "Would you pardon Chuck Chvala?"

That ought to make him sputter.
