How low can you go? Rush sets the standard

David Montgomery in WashPost:

Possibly worse than making fun of someone's disability is saying that it's imaginary. That is not to mock someone's body, but to challenge a person's guts, integrity, sanity.

To Rush Limbaugh on Monday, Michael J. Fox looked like a faker. The actor, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, has done a series of political ads supporting candidates who favor stem cell research, including Democrat Ben Cardin, who is running against Republican Michael Steele in a Maryland U.S. Senate race.

"He is exaggerating the effects of the disease," Limbaugh told listeners. "He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act....This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn't take his medication or he's acting."

Limbaugh was reacting to Fox's appearance in another one of the spots, one for Democratic Missouri Senate candidate Claire McCaskill against Republican James M. Talent.

But the Cardin ad is similar. It is hard to watch, unless, for some reason, you don't believe it. As he speaks, Fox's restless torso weaves and writhes in a private dance. His head bobs from side to side, almost leaving the picture frame.

"This is the only time I've ever seen Michael J. Fox portray any of the symptoms of the disease he has," Limbaugh said. "He can barely control himself."

Later Monday, still on the air, Limbaugh would apologize, but reaction to his statements from Parkinson's experts and Fox's supporters was swift and angry.

"It's a shameless statement," John Rogers said yesterday. Rogers, Fox's political advisor who also serves on the board of the Parkinson's Action Network in Washington, added: "It's insulting. It's appallingly sad, at best."

"Anyone who knows the disease well would regard his movement as classic severe Parkinson's disease," said Elaine Richman, a neuroscientist in Baltimore who co-authored "Parkinson's Disease and the Family." "Any other interpretation is misinformed."
See Fox's similar spot for Gov. Jim Doyle here.

Actually, many sources are saying that it is the classic result not of Parkinson's disease but of the medication for it (otherwise, Fox could be in the classic "freeze," so this allows movement at all).

In other words, what we see is because Fox DID take his medication. And, as Olbermann said last night, Limbaugh is hardly wise to be raising the issue of taking medication.

What a jerk.

Rush got his fromerly nicotined-stained hands on the Dem. playbook.

Rule #1: Attack the messenger.

You guys really shouldn't have a problem with that.

The Democrats should be ashamed of themselves but go figure that this kind of crap comes from them. Always exploiting victims for their cause like the 9-11 widows, Cindy Sheehan, Christopher Reeves, and Katarina criminals. Fact is that Fox is a political hack job trying to shamefully influence an election with a disease that WILL NEVER BE CURSED from stem cell research.

How's that stem cell business initiave Doyle? Has the DNR or the state supreme court run off any potential businesses yet?

GWC is such a christian .. not!

Fox may not be "cured" in time by stem cell research, but unfortunately, we will continue to be "cursed" with the idiocy of GWC.

My idiocy is perfect, other side. I don't think it is right for people like you to miss lead people. First, name one disease that stem cell research has been used to cure an disease in the thirty years of research? Second, there is a break thru process that has been proven effective in stopping and reversing Parkinson's disease that has nothing to do with stem cell research. It involves injecting a virsus into the brain which causes genes to produce monodrone which then regenerates nerves. Unfortunately people like you are using stem cell research to falsely bring hope to those who you exploit. For the record I support stem cell research but I believe the more important issue for Wisconsin is good jods, lower taxes, and less government. wisconsin is so far in debt that this pie in the sky issue should not be funded until we can afford it. My grand father died of Parkinsons and for you to call my "idiocy shows how inept you are.

A counter Ad to Fox that stars Jim Caviezel of 'The Passion of Christ' and Cardinals pitcher Jeff Suppan, and Kurt Warner will air toworrow in Missouri. To see it here is the link.

Great Ad. I'm glad to see that I'm in good company in what I believe.

One more thing to prove my point. Fox admitted in his book "Lucky Man: A memoir" to not taking his meds when he appeared before Congress. Look it up other side and realize the truth.

GWC, I can't believe you forgot Mrs. Everybody Loves Raymond!

We've already been making fun of that ad over at Playground Politics.

So your point is what -- that rather than use medication that, Fox decided to not take his pills and show the TRUE condition of his parkinson? oh yeah, that's so deceiving of him.

Polls in Missouri have back fired on amendment 2 and have increased Talents numbers. Thanks Alex P. Oh by the way dave diamond, if Rush Limbaugh was a colosso idiot why do 40+ million people listen to him. Your pathetic blog reaches what 2 people. Yeah. Just shows that your a wacko radical liberal that no ones cares about or gives you any credence to. I wonder who's the next victim you libs will roll out next. I have a suggestion for you. Whitney Houston, yeah, you could use her to blame Bush and the evil Republicans for her drug addition and mistreatment from Bobby Brown.

At 11:59 AM, Blogger Other Side said...

GWC: You must care somewhat, otherwise you wouldn't keep coming back. As I said before, for someone who claims to be a "Christian Taxpayer" there is nothing christian about you.

And I notice you had nothing to add to bluedahlia's retort.

I hope you work in a good "jod," and you are still an idiot, regardless of how your father died.

One more thing: You are the one who misleads ... you condemn libs for supporting something that has had no results for 30 years (you're wrong, btw) then you say you support stem cell research.

You are a clown and a hypocrite.

that's all you can do other side is name call because I have you box in a corner.

Funny, I thought 13 million people listened to Rush. Of course, over twice as many watch American Idol, so I don't know if number of listeners/viewers automatically equates to intelligence. (Nor, apparently, does being on a Fox Valley Christian school board.)

At 7:13 PM, Blogger Mike said...

gwc shadow...you are one seriously sad a-hole...ever actually have a thought to call your own? Always good to know the chairman of a school board can't spell...are you just trying to "miss lead" us, you fricking genius...

And whirl-away, please give some examples of the Democrats attacking the messenger. Cindy Sheehan? Richard Clarke? Joe Wilson? You right wingers are really a sad bunch.

"I soryy. Me in box corner. Right are you're."

I wrote my surrender above in a way you could understand ... gwc. Your towering intellect has me baffled.
