Paul Bucher, meet John Gard
"The ongoing violence in the city of Milwaukee is not just simply a city problem. It’s not the mayor’s problem. It’s not County Executive (Scott) Walker’s problem. It’s a problem of the citizens of this state." -- Republican attorney general candidate and Waukesha County DA Paul Bucher, proposing that the state pay for increased police patrols in Milwaukee.
Assembly Speaker John Gard (R-Peshtigo) said ... it could be a "tough sell" in the full Legislature if the governor's proposal would give $1 million only to Milwaukee in the months before his November re-election, while offering no additional help to other parts of the state. But Milwaukee has unique and serious violence problems, Gard noted. "Every (legislator) wants to make those Milwaukee streets safer." [As long as there's some pork for the rest of us.}
UPDATE: Cory Liebmann wonders why it's not Scott Walker's problem or Sheriff David Clarke's problem, but Jim Doyle's or Peg Lautenschlager's problem, when a shooting occurs in a Milwaukee County park. Link.

If only the legislators had enough common sense to realize that violent crime rates are not in any way related to police patrols. I'm sure Milwaukee is in an uproar over all the deaths over Memorial Day and somebody feels the need to put a band-aid on it. Unfortunately, as we all know, band-aids do nothing to heal the wound, just conceal it and make people feel better.
They might want to consider cleaning up their education system. See, the higher your education, the less likely you are to commit violent crime. Dropout rates in Milwaukee are out of control. They could also try programs for people convicted of lesser crimes to help educate them about their problems and control the anger and rage that makes them do what they do. Of course, that would included raising taxes most likely so they will just have to deal with the crime that their selfishness has bred.
