The Journal Sentinel's inimitable Patrick McIlheran says we should give Gibson credit for repressing his innermost thoughts most of the time, but Robola says Paddy Mac apologizeth too much.

There's a James McMurtry song that I've been quoting when people suggest Gibson didn't really mean it and deserves a pass because he was drunk. It goes:
Whiskey don't make liars,
it just makes fools.

So I didn't mean to say it,
but I meant what i said.
UPDATE: A Sunday NY Times piece asks; "Is it the drunk or the drink doing the talking?" and reaches much the same conclusion as McMurtry.
