McBride bails on Robert Gerald

It seems like just the other day -- actually, it was the other day, on July 11, when Jessica McBride was pumping up the Senate candidacy of one Robert Gerald Lorge:
Say what you want about Robert Gerald Lorge, but conservatives could do worse...

Robert Gerald Lorge may be the Rodney Dangerfield of Wisconsin politics, but it seems to me the guy's positions are a lot closer to many Wisconsinites than... Herb Kohl's are.

Plus, he's not the Elvis guy. That's his brother.

And he's at least in the ring. Conservatives have had a lot of Don Quijote (sic)pretenders, but he's the real thing. Tilting at windmills, yes, but he makes more sense on the issues than Herb Kohl does.

The recent Badger Poll showed that far more Republicans would vote for Herb Kohl than would vote for Robert Gerald Lorge.

Respectfully, are they nuts? I'll have the audio of my Lorge interview tonight posted soon, and people can judge for themselves. I'm going to invite Herb Kohl on my show too, because the guy shouldn't get a free pass. Let's debate his record because, yes, he does have one, and it's abysmal from a conservative perspective. No one running for such an important position should get a free pass.

Yeah, Robert Lorge probably has no money. Or, at least, less money than Kohl. Who doesn't? But I purposely didn't ask Lorge how much money he has on my show tonight. Elections should be about issues, not who's got a ranch in Wyoming and can write a gazillion dollar check. Kohl doesn't seem to care if the government gets more of our money, so who cares how much he has? So Lorge is not the establishment choice. Big deal! Who is? Herb Kohl?
That post ended with this line:
Conservatives, it's Robert Gerald Lorge calling. He wants his reputation back.
But now she's bailed out of the Lorge campaign, deciding he must be a child molester despite his denials. As a mom, Jessica won't have him on her show again. (Maybe her daughter could stay home that day and not be in the studio? Or go with her dad and lock up some immigrants?)

Great, so now the choice for U.S. Senate is a man (Robert Lorge) accused in a civil suit of molesting a 3-year-old girl and a man (Herb Kohl) who supports partial birth abortion, amnesty for illegal aliens, opposes English being the national language, and has a terrible record on taxes and gun owners' rights. Thanks state Republican Party for the great choice!...

I'd hoped at one time that we could revisit Lorge's reputation for oddness since his stances on the issues were a lot better than Kohl's. Lorge is denying the accusations. I don't have any way of knowing if they are true, but I will say that he won't be welcome on my show again. As the mother of a 1-1/2 year old girl, I can tell you that, when it comes to allegations of molesting 3-year-olds, I'm not willing to take the chance. So, that's it for Robert Lorge in my book.
He doesn't even rate the full name treatment any more. Robert Gerald is just plain old Robert now. So much for due process.

And Jessica, ever the practical politico, is talking about a write-in campaign for her patron, Charlie Sykes.

UPDATE: Sykes apparently just heard about this today, about five days late. Sykes is not usually one for understatement, but he simply says, "This is going to be messy." Meanwhile, Waukesha GOP Chair Don Taylor is standing by his man, according to a Lorge release. On Sunday, after the allegations were public, Taylor said:
"I have known Robert Gerald Lorge for a number of years, he is a man of good character and great ideas. I am even old enough to know his father (Senator Lorge) and worked with him, but I'm not old enough to know his granddad. I want you to give your full support to his candidacy....He's a good guy, give him your full support" Waukesha County Chairman Don Taylor told the Southeastern Republicans and candidates at Lion's Park during the Waukesha County Republican Party Southeast branch picnic held Saturday in New Berlin, Wisconsin.
You'll also find a photo of Taylor and Lorge with their arms around each other, making nice for the camera, and a photo of Lorge at a child's birthday party.

What amuses me is she must have harbored some thoughts that Kohl would actually accept an invitation to her show. Ha ha ha.
